Mt Coree is usually walked via firetrails but this walk will be off-track except for possibly the last 200 horizontal metres. The total vertical climb is 440 vertical metres, starting from the right-angled bend on Curries Road. I have checked out the first 140 vertical metres and found it has little scrub. The remaining 300 vertical metres will be an interesting mix of forest, moderate scrub, thick scrub and scree. I expect we will take a meandering route through this, occasionally on hands and knees. Return a similar way. The rewards are spectacular 360 degrees views from the top, without the 20 + km of hard fire trails that is usually required. Mt Coree is not part of Namadgi NP and is open. It was not burnt in the summer fires and the forest is looking great.
