Medium/Hard Wednesday Walk - 21 Jan 2026 - Stantons Gap (BBC)
Wed 21st Jan 2026
Bookings available to active members only.
No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks
This walk will be led by Henry Gardner (mobile 0431016975, please text first) on behalf of the Brindabella Bushwalking Club.
Stantons Gap is immediately south of "The Pyramid" (SH 1172) which is immediately south of Devils Gap. As well as the gap, our walk covers hills either side. We proceed from the Corin Rd in a clockwise direction. We first walk beside Corin Rd for a bit before ascending an unsurveyed hill to the south. Shortly before the summit, we turn down to reach a large clump of boulders with a view back along the valley. Heading down to Stantons Gap, we traverse some clearings with views of the boulder-strewn edifice that is The Pyramid. We will climb through these boulders to enjoy views from the summit. Finding our way back down is slightly tricky but there are more boulders to enjoy along the way.
Depending on interests, we may extend this walk by about an hour by walking to the north of Devils Gap where there is a lovely rock slab with a beautiful view of the Tidbinbilla valley. This extension is partially on fire trails and is easier going than the rest of the walk. Poles may make the it more enjoyable.
This is a scrubby walk with some steep sections (up to 50%) but it is designed to appeal to people who might feel that they do not fully meet the "experienced off-track walker" description. Without the extension, this walk could be about 5 hours for 5 km for moderately-fit participants. The extension will add about an hour (2 km).
This route is flexible and can easily be shortened if we find ourselves in deteriorating weather conditions. If a Total Fire Ban is in place for the ACT on this day, this walk will be cancelled.
Walkers should bring gloves, protective eyewear, gaiters, sunscreen and plenty of water.
Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
