BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-//https://mybilby.com//Activity Downloader//EN CALSCALE:GREGORIAN BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:Medium/Hard Wednesday Walk - 21 Jan 2026 - Stantons Gap (BBC) UID:20260121T193000-3710@https://mybilby.com DTSTART:20260121T193000 DTSTAMP:20260121T193000 GEO:-35.379374;149.057574 DESCRIPTION:**No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks** This walk will be led by Henry Gardner (mobile 0431016975, please text first ) on behalf of the Brindabella Bushwalking Club. Stantons Gap is immedia tely south of "The Pyramid" (SH 1172) which is immediately south of Devi ls Gap. As well as the gap, our walk covers hills either side. We procee d from the Corin Rd in a clockwise direction. We first walk beside Corin Rd for a bit before ascending an unsurveyed hill to the south. Shortly before the summit, we turn down to reach a large clump of boulders with a view back along the valley. Heading down to Stantons Gap, we traverse some clearings with views of the boulder-strewn edifice that is The Pyra mid. We will climb through these boulders to enjoy views from the summit . Finding our way back down is slightly tricky but there are more boulde rs to enjoy along the way. Depending on interests, we may extend this wa lk by about an hour by walking to the north of Devils Gap where there is a lovely rock slab with a beautiful view of the Tidbinbilla valley. Thi s extension is partially on fire trails and is easier going than the res t of the walk. Poles may make the it more enjoyable. This is a scrubby w alk with some steep sections (up to 50%) but it is designed to appeal to people who might feel that they do not fully meet the "experienced off- track walker" description. Without the extension, this walk could be abo ut 5 hours for 5 km for moderately-fit participants. The extension will add about an hour (2 km). This route is flexible and can easily be short ened if we find ourselves in deteriorating weather conditions. If a Tota l Fire Ban is in place for the ACT on this day, this walk will be cancel led. Walkers should bring gloves, protective eyewear, gaiters, sunscreen and plenty of water. Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, must contact the leader to d iscuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
