Mt Coree mostly off-track, & ACT/ NSW Border walk
Sat 21st Sep 2024
Walk
In September 2020, i joined a CBC walk, taking a direct off-track route to Mt Coree.
Mt Coree is usually walked via firetrails, but this walk will be nearly all off-track. The vertical climb is 440 vertical metres to Mt Coree, starting from the right-angled bend on Curries Road. The climb is an interesting mix of open forest with big old trees, some ferns, and patches of moderate scrub. Mt Coree was not burnt in the summer fires 2020 and the forest is looking great. Spectacular 360 degrees views from the top, without the 20 + km of hard fire trails that is usually required.
We'll return via Coree's rocky southern ridge and continue our adventure by climbing the next peak, SH1291m, along the ACT/NSW border heading south.
From SH1291m, we'll head off-track, navigating east through the bush to return to our cars.
Our guidance will be my two GPX files of the track I have.
Easy/ medium terrain for an experienced off-track bush walker with a good fitness,
