The bushwalk starts on the Wild Cattle Flat Road south of Captains Flat. The planned route is a circuit in an area of untracked forest in the Tallaganda National Park that has not been burnt recently. In the morning we’ll gradually ascend a long spur to a rocky knoll at about 1350 metres altitude. There are tall open-forests at the lower altitudes, with snow gum woodlands at the higher elevations. The scrub is not too bad overall, compared to Namadgi, but there is a tough section of fallen timber to negotiate in the morning. The afternoon route is easier and continues through more attractive forests and small grassy creeklines. This will be a long walk suitable for experienced off-track bushwalkers.
