Abbott Ridge

A 3-day off-track walk on the southern part of the Main Range to include a traverse of the high peaks of Abbott Ridge.

Day 1: From Dead Horse Gap, take the walking track up to its high point, then head off-track over to Rams Head North before dropping down to Cootapatamba Hut. Cross Swampy Plain River and walk around the western side of Kosci to set up camp near Wilkinsons Creek.
Day 2: With daypacks, climb up to Alice Rawson Peak then follow Abbott Ridge southwest taking in the peaks of Townsend (pictured), Abbott and Byatts Camp. Continue traversing the ridge until we meet the Hannels Spur route which is followed around back to the campsite.
Day 3: Up to Muellers Pass, then follow the crest of the Great Dividing Range back to Dead Horse Gap.

Note that if all the optional peaks are summited, you will have bagged 8 of Australia's 10 highest peaks!
