Morning E-M walk: Hall Village to One-Tree Hill, on the Canberra Centenary Trail (CCT)
Sat 06th Apr 2024
Walk, Part-day walk, Social
Join us for a morning walk on the Canberra Centenary Trail, from Hall Village to One-Tree Hill, return.
Gently meandering along the high ground on the ACT-NSW northern border, this walk offers great glimpses over the new suburbs of Gungahlin, right across the city and out to the ranges beyond.
At One-Tree Hill lookout (which is virtually bisected by the NSW-ACT border), we'll stop for morning tea. An interpretation panel discusses the siting, surveying, and development of the Australian Capital Territory (it's more interesting than it possibly sounds). There are also some benches on which to rest and admire the view.
This part of the CCT is a popular cycling track, and although it's generally wide enough to accommodate walkers and bikes moving in both directions, and we'll be walking fairly early, it's still important to pay attention for riders on the trail.

Terrain information
This walk is all on a well maintained trail. Some of it can be muddy after rain and other parts can be a little slippery. The trail gently undulates to the One-Tree Hill turnoff, at which point it climbs 60 meters over about 400 meters distance. This bit is short and steep, and contains quite a few stairs. The trail traverses generally open terrain, with sections of light scrub. It is exposed, and sun protection is advised, as is adequate water to comfortably accommodate your needs.
Transport information
DIY transport. Meet at the 'One-Tree Hill trail' trailhead, on the corner of Hall St and Hoskins St, in Hall Village at around 07:50am, for an 08:00am departure.
