CBC Monthly Presentation - Dusky Sound and Stewart Island walk not for the faint hearted
Wed 19th Jun 2024
Meeting
Garry and Greg took on the Dusky Sound walk (between 30 November and 5 December), often referred to as the toughest walk in New Zealand. The part they did was only 61km but took them 6 days. Its toughness comes from it often being more of a route than a track and the fact that you've got to climb and descend nearly 4,000m. You also have to negotiate 12 daunting triple-wire bridges and ward off millions of sandflies. But it had lovely river scenery and stunning alpine views enhanced by a fair amount of snow still being on the southern slopes of surrounding peaks.
A rewarding walk but not for the faint hearted; a presentation you should not miss!
No booking is required. Family and friends are welcome. Tea and coffee will be provided after the presentation.
