Easy-Medium Combo walk - Wed 16 Sept - Honeysuckle Circuit (BBC)

It is about ten years since the joint club Wednesday Walks program was formally split into the Easy-Medium and Medium hard categories. To mark the success of these walks we will hold a ‘Combo’ walk with two leaders sharing the walks and meeting up at different points during the day, and with a slice of cake at the end.

This Bilby entry describes the Easy-Medium walk. A companion entry will describe the Medium-Hard walk.

From the Honeysuckle Creek camping ground we walk up a road and footpad to the Sundial Rock (GR 791 593). We then follow a creek, roughly south, to a swampy area where several creeks converge. We cross the main creek and continue roughly south following another creek bed up to a saddle (GR 795 575) and have lunch in a pretty area with big boulders. The return will be higher up above the creek, with views to the Spinnaker ridge. We descend to explore the cascades and then head back to the Sundial Rock and then the cars.

Distance: 9 km. Climb: 250m. BBC level: 8

The off-track terrain is light forest with minimal scrub (easy to get through) and grass/tussocks. There is not much water in the creeks and they are easy to cross. Likewise, the 'swamp' is pretty dry. Long pants are recommended. Bring poles if you like.

Bring an extra thermos for afternoon tea back at the cars. We will supply chocolate balls to have with lunch and fruit cake for afternoon tea.
