This Medium to Hard graded walk will be led by Garry Boxsell (garry102@gmail.com or 0400 972627 - please text first) on behalf of the National Parks Association.
NOTE that due to the hot weather forecast and fire risk, the leader may decide to cancel the walk if conditions are considered too extreme
A walk to the upper Brindabellas near Mt Ginini to escape the heat in Canberra visiting cascades and a waterfall. Starting from Mt Ginini carpark, we head along Mount Franklin Road and head off down to Snowy Flats cascades for morning tea. We then head back up to Stockyard Spur Firetrail, then off-track down a steep, scrubby slope to the falls for an early lunch and a refreshing high country dip if there is enough water. We return via some noble fir trees, and other points of interest back to the cars.
A few kms of fire trail and remainder off-track, with mild to thick scrub, fallen timber and a steep slope. Suitable for fit, experienced, off-track walkers.
Walkers are advised to bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat. Additional water should be available from the creeks, treatment recommended. Gaiters, scrub gloves, eye protection and bathers are also recommended.
Weather: Current BoM for Mt Ginini on Wednesday 28 January, 18 - 32 degrees, hot, partly cloudy, 25% chance of 1 mm rain
Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
