EASY/MEDIUM WEDNESDAY WALK - 07 JAN 2026 (BBC) - GUNGAHLIN HILL

This Easy to Medium graded walk will be led by John Ellis (mob 0414372919) on behalf of the Brindabella Bushwalking Club.

In this walk, modified for the expected high temperatures, we will do a figure eight of the Gungahlin Hill area from a track just off the Barton Highway, south of the Gundaroo Drive roundabout. It is a pleasant area in which to walk with the walk itself being no more than five kilometres in total. Most of the walk is a combination of undulating grassland with patches of gum trees and bushland. There are quite a few kangaroos in the area and lots of bird life. There are two hills to climb - Spiders Hill and Gunghalin Hill - but they are not particularly steep and each takes about five or six minutes to climb. If we leave the parking area at about 8.30am we should be back at the cars by about 10.00am.

The easiest way to get to the starting point is to follow the Barton Highway towards Dickson from the large roundabout at the intersection of Gundaroo Drive and the Barton Highway. There is a dirt car track (obviously on your left) 1.5km from this intersection which leads to the car park for the start of the walk. Meet at the starting point at 8.20am for an 8.30am start.

Bring morning tea with you and plenty of water!
