Medium-Hard Wednesday walk - Weds 10 December 2025 - Hill 1356 and Billy Billy Rocks
Wed 10th Dec 2025
Bookings available to active members only.
No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks
This Medium to Hard graded walk will be led by Henry Gardner (0431 016 975 - Please text first).
This walk will highlight the approach to Billy Billy Rocks along the ridge of the Tidbinbilla valley from the north-east. We will leave cars at the regular BBR carpark but will start by walking north rather than to the traditional climbers' track. After a short time on an overgrown firetrail, we will bash our way steeply up to the Tidbinbilla ridge and then make our way through scrub to the top of Hill 1356 and morning tea at some impressive rock formations. We will then carefully make our way through rocks and scrub to the saddle before BBR. The ascent to BBR itself will pass seldom-visited rocks with great views down to the valley. If heat and rain permit, we will finally loop our way up to the very top of BBR and back down the climbers' track to the cars.
This is a scrubby walk with rock scrambling. Together with stops and rock exploration, its expected duration is about eight hours for 8 km. Walkers should bring gloves, protective eyewear, gaiters, sunscreen and plenty of water.
This walk is suitable for fit, experienced, off-track walkers. Prospective walkers who are uncertain whether they will be able to complete the walk in a timely manner are invited to consult with the leader.
Transport: In an attempt to beat some of the heat we will meet early at Kambah Village shops (Marconi Cres, opposite petrol station) at 7:00 to leave at 7.15am. 72 km ($10 per person).
Weather: Partly cloudy with a medium chance of showers later in the day (at least 1mm). The chance of a thunderstorm later in the day. Light winds becoming northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h during the day and a temperature range from 10-33°
Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
