MEDIUM/HARD WEDNESDAY WALK - SOUTH BLACK RANGE - (NPA)
Wed 23rd Jul 2025
Walk
Bookings available to active members only.
No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks
This Medium to Hard graded walk will be led by Philip Gatenby (contact philip.gatenby@gmail.com or 0401 415 446) for the National Parks Association.
The walk starts on the North Black Range fire trail, is partly exploratory and mainly off-track in Tallaganda National Park. We take a meandering route, initially to the north-east, through forests and swamps, later visiting South Black Range Trig, which is perched on top of a large granite boulder. Much of the area was burnt in 2019 so expect thick patches of regrowth.
Total distance of about 15 km and a climb of 500 m. Suitable for experienced off-track walkers.
The planned walk may be changed if Tuesday's rain extends well into Wednesday.
Meet: Spotlight Queanbeyan car park in time to leave by 8 am
Drive: 74 km, $9 per person
Map: Bombay 1:25,000
Weather: forecast for nearby Forbes Creek on Wednesday is possible morning shower, mostly sunny afternoon, 2-11 degrees
Those doing their first Wednesday Walk must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
There is a mailing list for Wednesday Walks. CBC Members wanting to go on this list can write to wednesday.walks'at'canberrabushwalkingclub.org (replacing 'at' by '@')
