Huts, Hills, and a Tarn in-between. Jagungal Wilderness, KNP (L/R/W/X) WL STARTED
Sun 05th Oct 2025
Walk, Alpine, Back-pack
Bookings available to active members only.
A three-night circuit in the remote eastern section of KNP.
The Itinerary....
Day 1 (11km): Parking on Nimmo Road, we will walk the Snowy Plains fire trail to Cesjack's Hut for night 1.
Day 2 (13km approx. All off track): a biggish day. We'll walk west from Cesjack's for around 6.5km to summit Mount Jagungal (hopefully with snow left on it). After this we'll head SSE for around 6.5km to spend night 2 at the spectacular Bluff Tarn, via Tarn Bluff where we should have some great views if the weather is willing. Given it's the spring melt, there's a good chance we'll encounter boggy ground, maybe a bit of snow, and slow going on day 2.
Day 3 (8.5km or 13km): Bluff Tarn-Kidmans Hut or Mill Flat (if we are feeling like a shorter day 4 or if Kidmans is occupied). Likely boggy ground between Bluff Tarn and Kidmans Hut
Day 4 (10.5km or 6km): Kidman's Hut/Mill Flat to the car via Teddys Creek fire trail
As much of this walk is at 1700m+ in late spring, I anticipate the possibility of squalling wind, sleet, and maybe falling snow (and certainly snow on the ground and on summits). However this isn't a snow trip and it won't run if there's been heavy dumps in the preceding week or so, or if poor weather is forecast.
With DST having just started we'll have a useful amount of daylight for the walking, and to relax in camp.
If we haven't yet hiked together it'd be appreciated if you could message me to indicate your previous overnight hike experience, and to confirm you are fit and adequately equipped for the trip. Or ask a leader you've recently walked with if they'd vouch for you.
A multi day backpacking or base-camping activity.
