Wednesday walk, BBC Sponsored - Easy/Medium (REVISED WALK)
**Bookings not required for Wednesday Walks.** Hi all Change of plan for the easy/medium walk on Wednesday. The original walk was too similar to the walk two weeks ago so here’s the new plan. Vanity’s Crossing - Upper Cotter River START TIME: 8:30AM LEADER: Dave Abela Mobile: 0482 802 050 tangodancing4me@gmail.com WALK DESCRIPTION: We’ll start walking from a point just about one kilometre after the Cotter Reserve and traverse well formed fire trails for a morning tea stop at Pierces Creek, where you might need to take your shoes off to cross the ankle deep water crossing. We will continue on fire trails with great views across the Cotter Catchment area to an unnamed high point with several cross roads, one of which is an entrance to the Namadgi National Park. We follow this trail into the NP to a point where we will leave the fire trails and head downhill off track for about 500 metres. It’s quite open bushland and only gets a bit thick when we reach Vanity’s Crossing. We’ll have a lunch stop at the crossing which is a great place to take your time and rest your toes in the cool water. There’s also an interesting fish ladder to see. GRADING: Easy/Medium DISTANCE: 11 kms TOTAL HEIGHT: 350 metres (approx.) WEATHER FORECAST: The Canberra forecast for Wednesday (as at Sunday) is for a maximum of 24 degrees, low chance of a shower. MAP: Cotter Dam 1:25,000 MEETING TIME & PLACE: Car park on Dillon Close, Weston (near the tennis courts, across the road from MacDonalds) We will leave Dillon Close at 8.30am, so please be there about 10 or 15 mins early. CARS: 34km ($5 per passenger) For those doing their first Wednesday walk please contact the leader to discuss your ability to undertake the walk.
