Hill 1246 near Booroomba Rocks Leader: Andrew Cupit (0478309791). cupitandjen@outlook.com We are starting this walk early and it is a short walk given the temperatures are forecast for over 30. The walk starts at the Booroomba Rocks car park off Apollo Road. We will walk 2.7kms along AAWT till we reach the base of Hill 1246. We will then head off track for 700m on a steep scrubby section to the summit for great views to the west towards Booroomba Rocks and northeast towards Canberra. We will then return the same way to the car park. We hope to finish the walk around lunch. We can then stop for lunch at Honeysuckle Campground or a swim/ lunch at Gudgenby River (Old Naas Travelling Stock Nature Reserve) on Naas Road on the way back. The 1.5km off-track section varies from medium to thick bush. Walkers are advised to have gaiters and gloves. Distance: Under 7km. Climb: 535m. BBC level: Medium (9). Map: Corin Dam and Williamsdale. Weather forecast (for Canberra): Min 18 Max 32. Chance of any rain: 25% chance of at least 5mm. Party cloudy. Med chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon. Light winds becoming east to southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h during the evening. Meeting point: Lanyon Valley Marketplace shops in time to leave promptly by 7.30am (to beat the heat). Cars: 60 km ($8 per passenger). Note - The road up to Booroomba Rocks is rough (recommended 4WDs). Those doing their first Wednesday Walk and also prospective walkers who are not members of the BBC, NPA or CBC clubs must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
