From Kennedys Road in Yaouk, walk the Maurice Luton Trail to gain access into the Scabby Range NR. Following is a very steep and scrubby ascent to approach Mt Scabby from the south. Once the saddle, which is the source of the Cotter River, is reached it becomes delightful open alpine walking with a mix of granite to the summit of Mt Scabby (image Kirk H.) for spectacular views and then further northward following the border. After beginning the descent which is scrubby at times, a stop will be made at the headwaters of Porcupine Creek to retrieve a food drop from a recent CBC trip. Some of the contents of the food drop may be distributed amongst the party to help share the load. From there it is a short continuation of the border before plunging off the ridgeline and back to the start.

A walk suitable for fit participants who are experienced in a long day of walking in rough off-track terrain.
