The 'Aussie Ten' (actually, Eleven). Kosciuszko NP. *Full, waitlist started*
Sat 08th Mar 2025
Walk, Back-pack
Bookings available to active members only.
A two night hike over the Canberra Day long weekend to summit Australia's eleven highest peaks, all over 2000m in elevation and all conveniently located on and adjacent to the main range of Kosciuszko National Park. Two of the eleven are the same elevation, and we will climb both.
This hike is rated as Grade 4 (Tracks are long, rough and very steep. Directional signage is limited).
The hike is a 45+km circuit out of Charlotte Pass. There is significant walking time on the Saturday (around 8 hours moving and approx. 25km) and also on Sunday. There is a big elevation gain (around 2km, excl. Rams Head South) and a fair part of it is done with a full pack on. Breaks will by necessity be short. There is boulder scrambling and possibly a bit of snow.
This event will suit members with good fitness and appropriate gear. It is a slog, but very rewarding.

Terrain information
Primarily, alpine and sub-alpine heath and grassland. Significant climbs both up onto the main range from Charlotte Pass, and then throughout the walk as we ascend the various prominences. Some boulder scrambling, and two river crossings at the start of the walk (depending on water levels, these may be dry crossings). Possible (unseasonal) snow on the ground and on summits. This would add a further technical aspect to the walking, and certainly make it more physically demanding.
Transport information
Car pool: 2x vehicles @ $180 per car. $45pp based on four people per car. Depending on member's travel intentions (please see Accommodation information, below), some folks may make their own arrangements.
