Hardy Range via The Sugarloaf and the 9 Mile and Razorback Tracks
Sat 05th Oct 2024
The Hardy Range provides expansive views west to the Cotter Valley and River, East to Canberra and South to the Tidbinbilla Range and beyond. The loop trail takes us from Laurel Camp around Sugarloaf Hill and descends to Pierces Creek. The steep climb along the Nine Mile track leads south west to the entrance to Namadgi National Park and the Hardy Range. We follow the trail to its end before retracing our steps and returning to our start via the Razorback fire trail. The walk will be predominately on formed trails with some steep to very steep sections with loose sand and gravel that are slippery and/or unstable under foot. The linear distance of 15km with an adjustment for elevation gain of 650m makes this equivalent to a 21.5km hike. Given the nature of the terrain (steepness) and the length and elevation gain/loss the hike is likely to be strenuous, take approximately 5.5hrs to complete and best suited for walkers with a high level of fitness, whom in the last 3 months have hiked regularly and completed successfully at least one hike with the club of a minimum length of 15km.
