Five days in the Pilot Wilderness region of Kosciuszko National Park
Thu 24th Apr 2025
Walk, Alpine, Back-pack
Five days and four nights (Thursday to Monday) in the south eastern corner of Kosciuszko National Park walking from Dead Horse Gap through to the Victorian Border.
Day 1 around 26 km from Dead Horse Gap to Tin Mine Huts, fortunately, most of it downhill. We are probably looking at 8 hours solid walking this first day.
Day 2 around 18 km from Tin Mine Hut to Cowombat Flat and the Murray River.
Day 3 around 18 km to Tin Mine Hut (We may add in climbing the pilot - 4 km return and around 300m in climbing).
Day 4 around 17 km to Cascade Hut (We may add in trying to find Tin Mine Falls - 4 km return and from what I can tell, an impenetrable bush bash).
Day 5 around 10 km to Thredbo.
You are welcome to bring younger walkers, you will just need to sign an acknowledgement of risks before we start. Just reach out when you book yourself in and I will get them registered.
You will need to be fit, well prepared, and had previous overnight bushwalking experience, and remember that this is an alpine environment, and below freezing temperatures and snow are both a possibility.
Sunrise about 6.45am - Sun set around 5.25 pm
A multi day backpacking or base-camping activity.
