Currowan Creek and Falls

Currowan Creek and Falls

Walk

We will do a through walk where we exploit a horseshoe feature in Currowan Ck to explore the upper and mid sections of the creek. We leave a car near a bend in the Ck then go upstream. We then leave the Ck and do a small climb (40m ascent) and steep descent (190m) over a low ridge to get to the mid section of the Ck. We go downstream to view the magnificent Currowan Falls from above. We retrace our steps and go to, I hope, a magnificent stand of tree ferns. All of the walk is off track and largely exploratory for the leader since the 2019/20 fires. Because we will be in the creek most of the time there will be wet feet and rockhopping on slippery rocks. Participants need to be experienced at this type of off track walking, reasonably fit and suitably prepared to cope with whatever the terrain might throw at us. Please read the details of the activity before signing up.

The group will meet in Braidwood before proceeding to the start of the walk. Car pooling is available from Canberra.

(Nb this trip has been rescheduled from October 2024 and revised to be focused on exploring Currowan Ck).

Terrain information

We leave a car near private property at a bend in the Currowan Ck and walk upstream for 2 or so km. We then cut cross a small range to mid Currowan Ck - his is likely to be rough and involve dense regrowth. Once in lower Currowan Ck we rock hop 400m or so downstream to the top of the falls. This might involve wet feet. We retrace our steps upstream and then go off track skirting private property to the car.

Transport information

Car pooling will be available out of Canberra. Distances and costs tba.
