Wednesday Walk - Corner Hill, Queanbeyan River, Spring Creek Gorge - CBC Sponsored
Wed 22nd May 2019
This Easier-than-Hard Medium Wednesday Walk is an interesting one-way-with-car-shuffle walk in the little-visited area west of Woolcara Lane in Yanununbeyan NP. While short, and mostly on a fire trail or open bushland, with little total ascent, it has rough patches requiring descending steep loose slopes, clambering over logs, patches of head-high scrub and some rock scrambling, but at a moderate pace.
Route: From a small parking area between the Park entrance and the Apple Box Day Use area on Woolcara Lane, we cut through open bushland to the Corner Hill Fire Trail, ascend to the trig/cairn then down the firetrail until we diverge through the scrub towards a large pool with a sandy beach on the Queanbeyan River at 124 E, 624N (GDA94). Then upstream, mostly about 50 metres above the river with views of its pools and rapids, to the junction with Spring Creek. The creek has a
small, picturesque gorge at the river and several cascades above. Return, mainly along Spring Creek (mostly dry) to the cars parked at the junction of Woolcara Lane and Spring Creek Trail, then pick up the car or two left at the start of the walk and drive back to Queanbeyan (about 40 minutes).
Modified Linda Groom walk - thanks Linda!
