The Northern Wollemi in the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area has some of the most remote high quality canyons in Australia.
This trip is 11 days including car travel from and back to Canberra. It normally takes a day to hike into and out of this area.
We leave early Friday morning from Canberra and drive for 6 hours. Later in the afternoon and depending on the road access situation (trees down, gate lock changes), there will be a 3 km fire trail walk with 10 nights food and all canyon gear (around 21 kg each), then on the next day, a 9 km fire trail walk. We will do a short canyon starting late that morning. Camp will be beside the fire trail.
For the next 7 days we will be exploring the canyons in an area of around 20 square kilometres.
This will be from a series of about 3 base camps. Some days there will be time to do 2 canyons. Most canyons will be day trips however at least once we will be going through a canyon with all gear to save effort and time. In the last 3 days we will loop back to the cars via the last night in an old volcano. After a short bush climb we will walk out about 8 km on fire trail back to the cars on the last Monday then drive back to Canberra.
You need to be an experienced canyoner and bushwalker to do this trip and a medium to high level of fitness is required.
Food will need to be divided to allow for food dumps en route.
Please advise the leader well in advance if you have any medical issues.
