Wednesday Walk: Poppet Hill - Wamboin (No need to register for Wednesday walks)

Easy-Medium Wednesday Walk #1, 30th September

Poppet Hill, Wamboin

You’ll be pleasantly surprised by this walk which is in a delightful yellow box bush reserve that straddles the NSW/ACT border in Wamboin. The walk is mostly all on formed tracks and some fire trails. We will meander our way to Poppet Hill which adjoins the Kowen East Nature Reserve. The walk traverses many gentle inclines with no steep sections. There are sections of loose rocks, so you may want to bring your walking poles.

Distance: 12 kms
Ascent/Descent: 250 mtrs
Grading: Medium/Easy (CBC), 5.5 (BBC)
Track Description: Mostly all on well defined single track, with moderate inclines, no off track and a few fire trails. It’s an easy 12 kms or so.
Meeting Time: 8.15 am for an 8.30 am start
Meeting Place: Meet at the Anaconda Fyshwich carpark at 36 Iron Knob Street, Fyshwick before 8.30am. We will carpool from here.
For those on the Northside, it might be closer for you to drive directly to the start of the walk which is at 112 Bingley Road, Wamboin (this is the address for the Wamboin Community Centre and Fire Station. Park in the carpark…the Fyshwich group will arrive there at about 9am).
Transport: Meet at Anaconda Fyshwick, then carpool from there. 28km round trip. $10 per passenger.
Weather for next Wednesday: 5C to 24C. No rain.
What to Bring: Day-pack, hat, sunscreen, 2 litres of water, morning tea and lunch. Walking poles if you wish.
