Rob Roy Range Nature Reserve – Trigs and Nature Reserves #20

A day hike in the RRRNR. We’ll begin by walking up the creek line at the back of the flood mitigation wall, turning to the south to climb a lightly wooded spur to join the Banks Steep Track. Then, I’m afraid, it’s fire trail passing the Rob Roy Ecce trig to gain Mt Rob Roy and its trig. Next comes a delightful 200vm descent through dry sclerophyll woodland to the edge of the grasslands. We’ll pop down (steeply at the end of this leg) to Rob Roy Falls. A rocky climb takes us up out of the creek system, and we then traverse three pleasant knolls to the north. Views from Big Monks trig. Sit on the stone throne at ‘Little Monks’, then descend to the 1910 Black and White Mine. From there, a careful steep descent over rocky terrain gets us to the urban edge and we return to the start along an urban fringe fire trail. Around 11km and 625vm of climb.
