Medium-Hard Combo walk - Wed 16 Sept - Honeysuckle Circuit (BBC)

It is about ten years since the joint club Wednesday Walks program was formally split into the Easy-Medium and Medium hard categories. To mark the success of these walks we will hold a ‘Combo’ walk with two leaders sharing the walks and meeting up at different points during the day, and with a slice of cake at the end.

This Bilby entry describes the Medium-Hard walk. A companion entry will describe the Easy-Medium walk.

Both groups walk from the Honeysuckle Creek camping ground up a road and footpad to Sundial Rock (GR 791 593). Then we move ahead of the EMs down to a swampy area to have morning tea on a knoll in the middle of the area. Then we climb the ridge to the south, probably encountering some difficult scrub. We follow the ridge and descend to the saddle, meeting the easy/medium group for lunch. After lunch we climb up to the next ridge and follow it just below the ridge line, to avoid the worst scrub and explore some rocky outcrops, before descending to the cascades to meet the easy/medium group again. Then, back to the Sundial Rock and the cars.

For the medium/hard walk, there is some harder scrub along the ridges. Long pants and/or gaiters are needed. Also eye protection.

Bring an extra thermos for afternoon tea back at the cars. We will supply chocolate balls to have with lunch and fruit cake for afternoon tea.
