Easy/Medium UID:20260909T090000-4042@https://mybilby.com DTSTART:20260909T090000 DTEND:20260909T140000 DTSTAMP:20260909T090000 GEO:-35.577717;149.109325 DESCRIPTION:** No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks ** Th is walk is an old favourite of mine. Starting from a locked gate north o f Angle Crossing we head northward along the Gigerline Nature Reserve. S ticking to the heights above the Murrumbidgee River we largely avoid the Blackberry bushes that have infested much of the riverbanks. Our route is covered in light to medium scrub and is quite undulating. Enjoying fr equent and very pleasant views of the river and surrounding hills we cro ss numerous dry and semi-dry creek beds, many of which have quite steep banks. There are also quite a few fence crossings. We will have lunch at the Tharwa Sandwash picnic area. It has two tables, with seats. Very ci vilised! From the Sandwash onward the walk is almost always on track. Th e exception is the Gudgenby River, our last water crossing of the day, a nd the only one guaranteed to get your boots wet. When checked last Sund ay the Gudgenby River level appeared to be around knee height. After cro ssing the Gudgenby we very quickly come to the De Salis Cemetery, which can be viewed by the walkers. From the Cemetery it’s only a short walk on a very well mown path to the big smoke, Tharwa, and our cars. We can then retrieve the vehicles we have left at Angle Crossing. A good walk for those new to off-track walking. Note: About three quarters of this w alk is off-track. DRIVING DISTANCE (EX-THARWA): 20 km return (roughly ha lf on unsealed roads). This walk involves a CAR SHUFFLE between Tharwa a nd Angle Crossing. Fuel cost per person: $5-00 Walkers who are not membe rs of the BBC, NPA or CBC must contact the walk leader before the walk t o discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
