 er: Henry Gardner The Mitten is the name that I have for an impressive g
 ranite tor that, arguably, looks like a ... mitten! It is sequested in t
 he bush to the east of the old Orroral Valley geodetic observatory and t
 he regular Granite Tors walking track. The mitten theme sounds appropria
 te for a winter walk in chilly weather. Given the poor prognosis of the 
 Wednesday weather forecast for off-track walking, this walk will only be
  partially off track. Starting from the Orroral Homestead carpark we wil
 l walk steeply off-track up to The Mitten and then to the observatory. A
 fter the observatory, we will proceed down to the Orroral picnic ground 
 by the regular Granite Tors track and then back to Lanyon Homestead carp
 ark via a short car shuffle. The off-track section of this walk will be 
 steep and rough and is likely to be wet after days of rain, but it has b
 een curated to include sections of quite lovely bush. Only fit, off-trac
 k walkers should present for this walk. Walkers should bring gaiters, ey
 e-protection, wet-weather gear, gloves (and/or mittens?). Distance: 8 km
  in 5.5 hours, vertial distance of about 500m Weather forecast for Canbe
 rra for Wednesday as of Saturday afternoon is for 0-12 degrees and a sho
 wer or two. Grading: Medium/Rough (CBC), 10 (BBC) Transport: Meet at Lan
 yon Marketplace, behind Maccas, at 8:20 for an 8:30 departure. From ther
 e we will organise shared transport to the Orroral picnic ground with a 
 suggestion of $10 per passenger ($30 per car). *Those doing their first 
 Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, mu
