This kayaking trip centres on the Noosa Everglades, a pristine network of tranquil waterways in the upper reaches of the Noosa River in Queensland’s Great Sandy National Park. We will commence and finish at Elanda Point on Lake Cootharaba and paddle to the upper-most accessible point on the Noosa River, at the junction with Teewa Creek. This will be a five-day itinerary, with four nights camping at locations along the river. We will spend two consecutive nights at one campsite, from which we will do a day-walk to the Cooloola Sandpatch (12km return), a huge sand blow with extensive views over the coast. Campsites for the upper river have been booked. In addition to this core part of the trip, participants are welcome to join the leader for a couple more days of paddling and walking, staying in a campground (or other accommodation, if individuals prefer) in the Noosa area. Possible activities include a day of kayaking on Lake Weyba and its tributary creeks and a day-walk (or several shorter walks) in Noosa National Park – there are a range of walks described on AllTrails. Note: for those who do not have their own kayak but are interested in joining this trip, it may be possible to borrow kayaks and accessories from other CBC members travelling to the area – please contact the leader if you are interested in this. Kayaks are available to rent from local commercial operators – the leader can provide details. A day-by-day itinerary for this activity is available from the leader.
Note: This activity follows back-to-back (one rest/logistics day in between) a CBC walk in the same area, the K’gari Great Walk, which will be led by Dave Abela. Details are available on the Bilby listing for that walk. Participants might wish to sign on for both activities for a more extended experience in the area.
The indicative number of participants in this kayaking activity is 4-6. There might be scope for further participants, depending on the availability of campsite places.
