M/H Wednesday Walk 29 Jul: Mt Gingera - A WinterTrek
Wed 29th Jul 2026
Bookings available to active members only.
No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks
Leader: Garry Boxsell at garry102@gmail.com
An old favourite, one of the best classic hikes in the ACT with a winter feel. Starting from Corin Dam, we climb steeply via Stockyard Spur track and make our way to Pryors Hut. Weather permitting, group fitness and time, we continue to Mt Gingera via an off-track route and return via the main summit track to the Mount Franklin Road, past Pryors Hut and back down Stockyard Spur Fire trail to the carpark.
Note: This is a hard winter walk for fit and experienced walkers. Members must be fully prepared for cold, wet, snowy, icy and windy conditions. Wed forecast currently is for possible snow showers -3 min to 5 max but wind chill and snow will make this feel much colder. This walk can take 8-9 hrs so an early start is required; a late return to cars ~ 5pm is possible.
Essential gear that must be carried: multiple warm layers, wet weather jacket and pants, beanie, gloves, boots suitable for wet weather and snow, gaiters, eye protection, torch in case of a late return. Minimum of 2 lts of water, lunch and snacks to be carried. A change of warm clothes stored in cars in case of returning wet and cold.
Distance and Climb: 21km, 1000m, 8-9hrs
Grading: CBC – Extra Long/Medium/Partly wet; BBC – 13 Hard; NPA – 4 A/C
Terrain: mostly track/firetrail, summit footpad, possible snow and ice, off-track section alpine heath, low scrub and rocks.
Maps: 8626-1N Corin Dam 1:25,000
Meet: Kambah Village Shops carpark, departure by 0730am
Transport: 90km return, $45 per vehicle
Weather: Mt Ginini BOM forecast as of Fri 24 Jul, -3 to 5C, winds 7 knots SW - wind chill -6 to 0C, partly cloudy, possible snow showers
Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, should contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
