Wednesday Walk: Big Monks Creeks And Peaks
Wed 24th Jun 2026
Bookings available to active members only.
No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks
A fairly short but demanding walk with a slow but quite arduous ascent over rough rocks and vegetation. A fair amount of rock climbing required on the way up. The descent should be more graduated, but that’s just relative. It’s still a fairly steep descent. With the recent rains, it may be possible to see an impressive waterfall on the way up. Also, from Big Monks there are panoramic views over the Lanyon Valley, to Mount Tennent and also to Booroomba Rocks.
From Big Monks we will go the Little Monks, and then commence a meandering descent towards the suburbs, taking in an old mine site, known as the Black and White Mine, on the way.
Bring morning tea. We should be back around lunchtime but pack an emergency snack in case we are delayed.
Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.

Terrain information
We go through some good snake country, so gaiters are required. Wear boots with good grip, and a hiking pole is always handy. Also, some of the vegetation can be a bit disobliging, so long trousers and long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Although the ascent will warm you up, you will need warm clothing for the remainder of the walk.
Transport information
On Tharwa Drive, 200 metres south of the Knoke Ave/Tharwa Drive/ Pockett Ave roundabout, you will see a rough and unsealed car park on your left. SEE ATTACHED MAP. This walk is self-drive, so transport costs are nil.
A walk or similar activity with a duration of a day or part day. No overnight gear required.
