Are you looking to return to overnight hiking after a long break away from it, or curious to try it out? Tuning a cold weather gear set? This might be the event for you.
Departing from the gate on Old Boboyan Road, hike to Luton's Crutching Shed and camp for the evening. 13km return/+200m vertical elevation gain. It's a comfortable walk if you have moderate fitness.
The area behind the shed is enormous and offers flat camp sites among gorgeous snow gums, a nice spot for a fire and to socialise. There's a water tank at the shed though there's no toilet.
It'll be cold to 'freaking cold' (minus 5 isn't unusual out there in winter) so please pack accordingly. A suggested winter gear list will be provided. Note the club can hire some gear, notably sleeping bags rated for cold weather.
*Places for this event are prioritised to members who are new to overnight hiking or are coming back from absence. Equipment for a very cold night is mandatory. The focus will be on getting in the swing with pack hiking, tuning gear, and practising our campcraft, in a friendly and supportive social setting. Please indicate your overnight hike experience when you express your interest.

Transport information
See you at the carpark at the gate on Old Boboyan Rd at 1345 for a 1400 start. Be mindful the road out can be rough and rocky. It's fine for a 2WD but give yourself plenty of time to get out there (at least an hour from southside and 90 minutes from northside). Alternately, if you can get to Downer or live adjacent to the GDE-Tuggers Parkway-Drakeford Drive corridor, I'm happy to pick you up. First in best dressed on that.
