Medium-Hard Wednesday Walk, 6 May, McKeahnie Trig from Corin Rd (BBC)

This walk leaves from a small siding beside the Corin Road about 4km west of Square Rock carpark. We will walk off track and will loop around the slope to the south of Corin Rd with McKeahnie Trig at its apex. Much of the bushland here is surprisingly open although there are scrubby sections. Like gorillas from the mist, granite tors emerge from the surrounding scrub and we will spend time enjoying several groups of boulders during our walk. With reasonable weather, some of these boulders afford spectacular views down to Corin Dam and the ranges behind, north to Tidbinbilla and east to Square Rock. McKeahnie Trig itself will allow us to marvel at an achievement of 19th century engineering.

This walk is about 7 km with 480m gain/loss. It will take about 7 hours and has a BBC grade of 10, CBC grade M/R. Walkers need to bring gaiters, gloves and eye protection. Weather forecast: Partly cloudy, min 1, max 18

Meet at Kambah Village carpark, Marconi Cres, opposite the Service Station at 7:50 for an 8:00am departure. Shared vehicle cost will be $12 per passenger assuming four per car with tips welcome.
