Stockyard Spur at your pace

Here’s your chance to conquer the infamous Stockyard Spur Track. It rises around 500vm in the first 2km from the track head at Corin Dam via a well-made, steep track with hundreds of wooden and stone steps.
This trip is designed for walkers who have never walked up to Stockyard Spur. Each hiker can do it at their own pace and we’ll regroup at the helipad clearing where the climb joins the crest of Stockyard Spur. Ten years ago my time was around 50 minutes; in 2023 around 1 and a half hours; now it will take me two hours. The steps at the start of the climb represent the steep ‘risers’ of the staired track and the ‘treads’ the very short flatter areas where you can regain your breath. From there, the track undulates over a further 4.5km to join the Mt Franklin Road, including another significant climb of 200vm. We can stop and turnabout whenever we want, returning as a group. Around 5-7km and 500-700vm climb.
I’m also needing 2 or 3 experienced hikers who would be willing to turn around at any point to escort puffed walkers back down, if they reach their limit. Please book on to assist us.
