Medium/Hard Wednesday Walk - Wed 18 March – FISHING GAP TO SW HILL 1381m (BBC)

We start from Fishing Gap car park and walk up the fire trail to Fishing Gap (4km) and then head south off-track up a steep incline covered with bracken fern and thick scrub for around 1km to a ridge line with views back towards the fire trail and Canberra. We continue for another 1km south-west in thick scrub along the ridge line and then head west towards a high point at 1381m for views of the Cotter Dam and Cotter Valley for lunch. We then head north along a ridge line down towards Fishing Gap creek. Some sections require rock hopping down steep areas with some scree. We then follow the creek line back towards Fishing Gap through more thick scrub. We return the same way along the fire trail to the Fishing Gap car park. There is 5kms off-track and 8kms on a fire trail. Long pants, gaiters and gloves are recommended because there are patches thick scrub and rocky areas. We start and finish the walk at the Fishing Gap car park within Tidbinbilla. 
Distance: about 11km. Climb: 700m. BBC level: Medium (11).

Meeting point: Kambah Village shops (Marconi Cres, opposite petrol station). Meet around 8.15am to leave at 8.30am. Cars: 70 km ($10).
Canberra forecast is 15-24C. Cloudy. Medium chance of showers (0-1mm). Light winds east to north-easterly 15-20km/h.
