Alan and Sue Vidler were stalwarts of Canberra Bushwalking Club; they both served on the Committee and led many walks, including both ski trips as well as hard exploratory walks all over the Canberra region as well as in the Budawangs. After moving to Canberra from Adelaide, I chose to go on a first Canberra Club bushwalk, the leaders being Alan and Sue V. They welcomed me and looked after me. As Alan collected wood for a morning tea cuppa, I felt at ease (fires are no longer allowed). As the walk progressed, we managed to see a tiny Corroboree Frog, which Sue explained was the CBC emblem. I was dutifully impressed.
For years, Sue and Alan led walks and looked after new members. Today, I felt very sad to read the note advising CBC members that Sue Vidler had passed away; Alan had died a few years earlier.
I would like to celebrate their active and generous lives by "leading" a Memorial Walk in the Botanic Gardens.
Those who are interested, please meet me at 2 pm Tuesday 10 March at the Eucalyptus Lawn with a thermos, afternoon tea and suitable goodies, and we can remember this couple who added so much to our Walking Club. No need to book, just turn up. For enquiries, contact me at janet.nd58@gmail.com
