Pinnacles, Kama and Molonglo River Nature Reserves:
Sat 31st Jan 2026
This walk explores the diverse landscapes of the Pinnacles, Kama, and Molonglo River Nature Reserves. These open grassy woodlands and river corridor are vital sanctuaries for a vast variety of native flora and fauna. Starting in the Pinnacles, we travel southwest through Kama toward the Molonglo River. Our return journey offers a fresh perspective on each reserve, ensuring a varied experience throughout. The terrain includes fire trails, narrow footpads, and light off-track sections with undulating ground, roots, and loose rocks. Due to the season, gaiters or long pants are mandatory for leg protection. With a distance of 11km and 300m of elevation gain (equivalent to a 14km flat walk), this hike requires a moderate level of fitness. It is best suited for those who have completed a 10km hike in the past month and are comfortable with off-track movement. Nature Connection: This walk intentionally balances social interaction with brief, guided periods of quiet, attentive walking and a short 'sit spot.' These moments are designed to support a deeper engagement with the landscape. Conversation is warmly welcomed at all other times.
