W e will leave cars near the regular Billy Billy Rocks carpark and start b y walking north along on an overgrown firetrail. We then walk up steeply to the Tidbinbilla ridge and then make our way through scrub to the top of Hill 1356 and an early morning tea. The rock formations on Hill 1356 are awe-inspiring and are made more special by being so close to famili ar country but so well away from the beaten track. After time for boulde r fossicking we will then wend our way to another rock formation, and th en another, and so forth around the Hill 1356 plateau in a clockwise man ner before retracing our steps back down to the cars again. Our furthest destination will be a "cavish overhang" at the far side of the plateau. This is a scrubby walk with steep sections (up to 37%) and rock scrambl ing but it is designed to appeal to people who might feel that they do n ot fully meet the "experienced off-track walker" description. Together w ith stops and rock exploration its expected duration could be about 5.5 hours for 5.5 km for moderately fit participants. However, the route is extremely flexible and the walk can easily be shortened if we find ourse lves in deteriorating weather conditions (including smoke from bushfires ). We will start early with a view to finish by mid-afternoon. Walkers s hould bring gloves, protective eyewear, gaiters, sunscreen and plenty of water. The weather forecast presently is a low chance of showers and te mperatures 12-22°. Note: if a Total Fire Ban is in place for the ACT, t his walk will be cancelled. Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, must contact the leade r to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
