This Medium to Hard graded walk will be led by Henry Gardner (mobile 0431016975, please text first)

This is an out-and-back walk to the sloping plateau that is Hill 1356 along the eastern ridge of the Tidbinbilla bowl. We will leave cars near the regular Billy Billy Rocks carpark and start by walking north along on an overgrown firetrail. We then walk up steeply to the Tidbinbilla ridge and then make our way through scrub to the top of Hill 1356 and an early morning tea. The rock formations on Hill 1356 are awe-inspiring and are made more special by being so close to familiar country but so well away from the beaten track. After time for boulder fossicking we will then wend our way to another rock formation, and then another, and so forth around the Hill 1356 plateau in a clockwise manner before retracing our steps back down to the cars again. Our furthest destination will be a "cavish overhang" at the far side of the plateau.

This is a scrubby walk with steep sections (up to 37%) and rock scrambling but it is designed to appeal to people who might feel that they do not fully meet the "experienced off-track walker" description. Together with stops and rock exploration its expected duration could be about 5.5 hours for 5.5 km for moderately fit participants. However, the route is extremely flexible and the walk can easily be shortened if we find ourselves in deteriorating weather conditions (including smoke from bushfires). We will start early with a view to finish by mid-afternoon.

Walkers should bring gloves, protective eyewear, gaiters, sunscreen and plenty of water. The weather forecast presently is a low chance of showers and temperatures 12-22°. Note: if a Total Fire Ban is in place for the ACT, this walk will be cancelled.

Those doing their first Wednesday Walk, and those who are not members of the CBC, BBC or NPA, must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
