The road to Charlottes Pass usually opens after the October Long Weekend and the Kosciuszko chair out of Thredbo also operates. We will take advantage of the snowshoeing opportunities this presents by doing two to three day trips from the CAC lodge based in Jindabyne. Destinations include Club Lake, Mt Carruthers, Twynham, Blue Lake, Hedley Tarn, and Mt Kosciuszko. These destinations will be weather dependent. Given the poor Australian snow season thus far, it is highly likely hat we'll be hiking a bit before we find snow. If the weather is really bad we'll just take a hike at lower elevations (eg along the Thredbo River or towards Teddy's Hut).

This activity is suitable for CBC members new to snowshoeing - if you can hike you can snowshoe. The caveat is you need to have good fitness and can get hold of the necessary gear to keep yourself comfortable and safe in mountain alpine weather. Note we will be snowshoeing/hiking at much higher altitudes (at least 1700m) than Canberra (around 600m) which may affect some people unused to higher altitudes.

Accommodation will be at the scenic Canberra Alpine Club Lodge in Jindabyne right on the lake. Preferences will be given to participants who can commit to the full three nights. Note that payment will be required before a booking is confirmed. Should you decided to pull out after you pay, I'll aim to fill your spot from the waitlist so that you won't be out of pocket. If that is not possible, there will be a small cancellation fee for pulling out if it is more than 1 month before the activity (eg around $10).

We will drive down to Jindabyne on Friday. We will aim to do something on each of Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We will return to Canberra on Monday mid-afternoon. Snow shoes and other gear can be rented from Rhythm in Cooma or Wilderness Sports in Jindabyne. The leader will provide further details on appropriate gear to take.
