The Munjip Trail is a recently completed 18km walking trail from Batehaven to McKenzies Beach near Malua Bay. The trail passes through a variety of landscapes including bushland, bays, beaches, headlands, and rock platforms. Along the way you’ll see beautiful coastline views and peaceful places from which to look out to sea and the artwork and stories of the Walbunja people. Munjip Trail features five local Walbunja artists and students from Batemans Bay High School, sharing cultural stories through artwork along the trail. The art reflects deep connections to country, honouring traditional practices local to Walbunja Yuin Country.
It will be a long day, so you will have the option of starting from Canberra on Saturday morning around 6am, or driving down on Friday afternoon and staying overnight. Let me know if you’d like to share Friday night accommodation with others. I will be staying Friday night and sharing accommodation. I will plan to have a couple of cars placed at the end of the walk, then meet at Obeservation Point Batehaven, around 8.45am for a 9am start. Lots of very pleasant places to stop for short breaks and a couple of swimming stops as well.
We should finish around 4pm or so, for our drive back to Canberra.
If the forecast is for a really hot day, I will plan to shorten the walk by several kilometres.
