It is an extinct volcano and offers impressive landscapes and rich biod iversity. While climbing Mt Kenya is reasonably popular, it nonetheless attracts far fewer trekkers than Mt Kilimanjaro. We will engage a local trekking company to assist with logistics and to provide guiding service s and porters. The proposal is to ascend the dramatic Chogoria route to the highest trekking point – Point Lenana, 4985m (two higher points re quire technical climbing) – and descend on the Sirimon route. For grea ter enjoyment of the trek and to allow good time for altitude acclimatiz ation, we would look to allow around 6 days for the trek. The trek would be a suitable add-on for those doing the CBC Kilimanjaro trek (see Bilb y listing) but others are also invited to join. Participants should have a good level of fitness and endurance for the trek. Indicative cost for the trek is AUD1700. It would be possible to add a few days for a wildl ife safari after the trek, either arranged individually by participants or with some coordination on behalf of the group by the trip leader. (No te re timing: Dates given on Bilby are indicative only – the intention is that the trip will run in January 2027 and follow 2-3 days after the CBC Kilimanjaro trek, allowing for transport from the Kilimanjaro area to Nairobi and at least one rest day in Nairobi.)
