Nature Connection Through the Lens

The health and wellbeing benefits of spending time in nature are well-attested in a growing body of research. Crucially, however, simply being in nature is insufficient; what matters most is our relationship to and connection with it—how we think about, feel about, and experience the natural world. This connection is more than a functional interaction; it involves a deeper respect, appreciation, and caring. The aim of this activity is to provide a structured opportunity to deepen this connection to the natural world. We achieve this by using photography not merely as a means of collecting images, but as a practice of focused observation and mindful presence. The activity integrates these practices during a structured bushwalk, centring on concepts such as Awakening the Senses, Mindful Presence, Beginner's Mind, Slow Looking, and Intentional Frame. Resources introducing these key concepts will be provided prior to their practical application. This activity will be undertaken in the Aranda Bushland Nature Reserve.
