Claimed by many to be the best hike in the ACT the climb to Mount Gingera from Corin Dam via Stockyard Spur 20 kms, elevation gain 1116 mts, estimated time 7.5-8.5 hrs. From the Corin Dam car park we follow the Stockyard Spur Walking Track with a steep ascent roughly 500 lineal mts in the first two kilometres to Stockyard Spur. We continue on the Stockyard Spur Walking Track till it joins the Mount Franklin Road which we will follow past Pryors Hut from there a firetrail will take us to Pryors Hut around 8 kms, there are toilet facilities and a log book to sign. At the junction of Mount Franklin Road and the Mount Gingera Walking Track there is a creek where we can refill our water bottles. From there to the summit is less than one km on gentle gradient. The views from the summit are absolutely breathtaking. On a clear day you will see out accross all the sorrounding mountains in the region including Australia's highest peak Mount Kosciuszko. On the summit of Mount Gingera is the most photographed snow gum in Australia, a true survivor a reminder how harsh and how adaptable you have to be to survive in those conditions.
