EASY/MEDIUM WEDNESDAY WALK - TIDBINBILLA NATURE: COME AND GET SOME! (BBC)
Wed 03rd Sep 2025
Bookings available to active members only.
No bookings required for joint club Wednesday Walks
This Easy to Medium graded walk will be led by Lou Alaimo (0428 32 8686) on behalf of the Brindabella Bushwalking Club.
Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, I know where the birdies is: Tidbinbilla!
Join me for an early spring trek to mountain folds beneath the range and see the colour coming to the landscape.
We start at the Rock Valley Homestead carpark, head over the Tidbinbilla River and begin a steady climb NW towards the folds and spurs below the range. The early section is on trail before heading off on a foot pad with a morning tea stop on the way (large MT because lunch will likely not be until 1pm).
Next we tackle a 900m long trail climb with a few breaks on the way. This gets us to the target of the walk, a traverse of the mid upper reaches below John's Peak and Camels Hump.
Finishing the traverse we start off track and make our way to the western fence of the Jedbinbilla Safe Haven protecting the Southern Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby. We descend to the river along the Jedbinbilla boundary in the faint hope we'll spy an SBRW!
We lunch after an unusual Tidbinbilla river crossing before winding our way back to the Homestead.
Gaiters/Half gaiters – maybe snake protection / keep gravel out of boots.
Distance 13.5 km. Total Ascent: 350m. Grade 8 - low medium.
Weather as at Saturday: Partly cloudy, 15, 20WNW winds.
Cars: 40km ($5 per passenger). Leaving 8:30am from Lanyon Marketplace car park near McDonalds.
The Reserve entry fee per car: $15.53 or $9.32 seniors/concession. However to avoid the entry fee we may have walkers with a Reserve car pass and who are happy to take passengers AND/OR we can car shuffle from the main carpark.
Northerners may prefer to go direct and meet at the main carpark no later than 8:50am.
Those who are not members of CBC, BBC or NPA and all who are doing their first Wednesday Walk must contact the leader to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
