This is a commercial trip run by the well-reputed Willis's Walkabouts bushwalking tour operator, based in Darwin. A number of CBC members have signed onto this trip and we are inviting others to join us. The trip comprises two separate walks in two very different areas (it is possible to do just one of them):
• A circuit walk based around Baroalba Creek in Kakadu. Six days (4-10 January). Description from Willis Walkabouts: ‘one of the most amazing landscapes in Kakadu’; includes ‘the greatest concentration of Aboriginal rock art we can visit in Kakadu; good swimming, great views and amazing rock formations’.
• North to south across southern Litchfield: Eight days (10-17 January). Description from Willis Walkabouts: ‘waterfalls and pools galore; takes you into the least known part of Litchfield; good swimming, great views in a place we should have all to ourselves.'
The trip will be in the wet season, a time of year that sees very few visitors to these areas. This does mean it will be hot and humid and rain is likely on most days, though mostly in short, sharp bursts. On the upside, all the waterfalls will be flowing and the landscape will be lush and green. CBC members who have participated in similar trips at this time of year in the past have reported very positively about their experiences.
More information about the trip can be found on the Willis's Walkabout website. This includes costs – note: there are discounts for early payment: 20% if one books and pays in full four months the before start date; 15% if three months in advance; 10% if two months in advance. Payments are fully refunded if the trip is cancelled. Group size is 4-12 participants.
