Walk, Back-pack
Celebrate Reconciliation Week over the ACT long weekend with a 3-day walk through the hills of neighbouring Ngunnawal and Ngarigo Country. A circuit walk in the wilderness area of Namadgi National Park to visit both Sentry Box Rock and Sentry Box Mountain. Suitable for members experienced in off-track pack walking.
Day 1: From Yankee Hat carpark, in via the saddle south of Gudgenby, down to cross Nass Creek, south following the route of the old Sams Creek fire trail, then up Maurice Luton fire trail to camp. 11 km and 500 m accent.
Day 2: Follow the ACT/NSW border along the Scabby Range up to Sentry Box Rock and then on to Sentry Box Mountain. East across to SH1727 and down the spur to camp at Luton’s crutching shed. A tough off-track day with copious amounts of quality scrub, interspersed with imposing open granite slabs revealing spectacular views from the ridge. 11 km and 600 m accent.
Day 3: Back out along Old Boboyan Road (fire trail) with detours to visit Hospital Creek hut and Frank and Jacks hut. A wet feet crossing of Nass Creek. 13 km and 250 m accent.
A multi day backpacking or base-camping activity.
