The Canberra Centenary Trai l touches the plantation in places, but we’ll walk in its depths. From the edge of Taylor, our route takes us north to join the CCT. We follow it, passing century old ACT border markers to the northernmost point of the ACT just on the Bedulluck map. From near here, we’ll drop into th e Eucalypt Plantation. The trees stand in straight rows with leaf litter covering the ground somewhat like a pine forest. Planted in the 1970s t o provide wood for Canberra fireplaces, that policy was soon overtaken a nd residents were paid to remove pot belly stoves and the like from home s. Rejoining the CCT at the Northern Campsite, we’ll walk under Oak Hi ll and down to the Golden Sun Moth area on the northern fringe of Bonner . Return will be similar, but a different route through the GEP. A long trip of around 24km and 550vm of climb spread throughout the day. Much o f the trip is on the CCT, but there are also off-track legs through open woodland and, of course, GEP. We will have to cross a few gates and may be fences. This trip can be done one-way, around 12km and 300vm of climb . When booking, specify “all” or “one-way”. We can put in a car shuttle for the one-wayers.
