Wednesday walk E/M BBC Sponsored
Bookings not required for Wed walks. Cronins Forest Leader: Kathy Handel ph 0447 289 638, khandel@bigpond.net.au Description: This is a beautiful forested hillside on the western edge of Tallaganda State Forest, west of Mt Cronin. The walk is hilly, through tall native forest, with a hut, a ruin, and a viewpoint from a flat granite outcrop. The terrain is mostly old fire trail, with some single-file track and some steep off-track through semi-open forest. Grade (8): Distance 10km; ascent 400m Meet: Queanbeyan Spotlight car park (corner Yass Rd & Monaro Hwy), leaving at 8:30am Transport: 90km, $13 per passenger. Note: A car shuffle is required. 4WDs/AWDs are desirable as the dirt road from Hoskinstown onwards has some corrugations and part of the forest road (6km each way) is rough and stony (although the really bad ruts have thankfully been fixed). Drivers should check tyres beforehand. Map: Bendoura 1:25000, Captains Flat 1:25000 Weather forecast: partly cloudy, temp 8-24 in Canberra. The forest is a few degrees cooler. Reminders: Bring water, lunch, hat, gaiters for the off-track section and poles for steep bits. Those doing their first easy/medium Wednesday walk and walkers who are not members of the BBC, CBC or NPA must contact the walk leader before the walk to discuss the level of difficulty of the walk.
