This 12km anti clockwise circuit explores the woodlands in, out and in between the Cuumbean Nature Reserve. From the small car park off Captains Flat Road, we initially head south west along an old disused track that intersects with the Queanbeyan River Trail, then continue along a narrow undulating trail till reaching behind the reservoirs. Here we pick up a foot pad, and head south west near a creek line. We take a short diversion off trail uphill to admire views down into Valley Creek. After crossing Valley Creek (dry) there is a steep climb up to some lovely rocks for breathier and a nice vantage point. Then continue further uphill connecting with the fire trail that continues all the way to Faunce Hill. We will explore off track in the woodlands to the east of this fire trail before rejoining it a short distance from Faunce Hill. After Faunce Hill, we head off track again for a significant amount, heading north east following spurs through the woodlands, up and down gullies and navigate a creek crossing with a steep climb out, before rejoining the Queanbeyan River Trail, to head back to our starting point. Approx 5 hours including various vantage stops, morning tea and a lunch stop.
